welcome to my research page!

Hello & welcome to my research page! My name is ava, & I am an honors student doing a double major in anthropology & psychology with a minor in history. One of my most favorite things I do on campus is I am a researcher for Dr. Mitch Brown's SPHERE lab at the University of Arkansas! Since beginning my undergraduate studies, I have discovered a love for psychological lab work. My lab instructor/mentor has allowed me the space to express my interests in rather strange topics freely, and it is geniunely so much fun. I have become somewhat of a generalist, dipping my toes in a bunch of little studies that are quick and get results fast. Through this I have learned a lot about research study designs, and feel very comfortable coding my own surveys & conduct and lead my own research. As I begin my junior year, I am embarking on my biggest research project yet!

As an honor student, i am required to do a thesis over any research topic of my choosing, and i am lucky enough to be in this awesome psychology lab to acheieve this! In this lab primarily, we research over topics of evolutionary & social psychology, with mine focusing on subjects such as sexual orientation, religiousity and social perceptions of others. My honor's thesis will be over religion (specifically athiesm) and people's perceptions and thoughts about them, and whether their sexual orientation can affect this. Other studies i have helped out so far since joining the lab was a study on dark humor and its correlation to psychopathy, and testing out people's gaydar. Overall, very fun work & i stay busy! Stay tuned for my findings, papers & posters I will be creating throughout the academic school year.
